Someone give Casey Cadwallader his flowers for this Fall/Winter 2023 collection, because wow. After 3 long years, the fashion house finally made its highly anticipated return to the Paris Runway, for Paris Fashion Week, with a Haute Couture collection of 36 looks that were nothing short of; theatrical, iconic and outrageously sexy.

It was a dark day in fashion when Manfred Thierry Mugler, the fashion house’s creative director and founder, passed last year, but Cadwallader has honoured his memory and began filling the void within the fashion industry, that is Mugler’s absence. Cadwallader has ensured Mugler’s comeback was beyond notable from the casting of models, to the dramatic runway and the pieces themselves, with a diverse variety of models in age, ethnicity, size and gender, featuring some OG models that have appeared in previous Mugler shows.

The show was kicked off with models like Irina Paloma, Shalom and many more, posing, flashing their handbags and flipping their hair while being rolled onto the runway on dollies, as crew members filmed them. The live footage was displayed to the world and on a screen above the stairs, upon which, each supermodel descended from, with a camera following along, capturing every step and sway. The line was rich with Mugler’s classic trademarks and sexy goth-fetish chic with lots of lace trimming, deconstructed leather, cut-out pieces and architectural, contemporary designs, in true Mugler fashion.

Look 14: I love love love this look. The long asymmetric, slit dress top is oh so chic, with the side-ribbed one leg leather trousers- wow. Not to state the obvious but the bleached brows, nude lip and baby blue eyeshadow and lashes really tied the look together. Daniele Oberrauch via gorunway.com.

It's no secret that black was the star colour in exaggerated sleeves, eccentric shoulder designs and lace tulle pieces, but Cadwallader also made room for statement colours and fabrics like; red, pink, brown and denim. The discourse of the collection made the audience and world focus on the magnificence of futuristic shapes and silhouettes, Mugler's trademark, through linings and placements of fabric that celebrated the models’ figures. Balance was utilised to enhance this vision through, broad shoulder pieces being neutralised with tight fitted corsets, while lace numbers were balanced with strong leather corset tops and leather trousers with zipper detailing. Alongside delicate sheer pieces to contrast the majority of the line or the Spiral Curve 01 bag to accentuate the looks.

Look 30: this look, modelled by the phenomenal Irina Shayk is to die for. I’m in awe of the asymmetric neckline of the top and its extravagant sleeve. The sleek wrap around skirt, with the exaggerated accents really gives elegance and sexiness. And I wouldn’t have styled it without the leather knee-high boots. Daniele Oberrauch via gorunway.com.

The broad shoulder brown and black ribbed leather jackets that came with matching trousers or extreme cropped hoodies cloaked with shoulder padded black cotton trench coats with leather accents weren’t the only talk of the town. The make-up demanded recognition, Cadwallader really said, ‘black is the new red bitches!’ as models wore loud eyeshadows and tones of red, brown and black lipsticks, with bold or bleached brows, to go hand-in-hand with their equally dazzling looks.

Look 22: The diamanté tassel top here is the one. I love the invisible corset illusion that slips into a more BDSM vibe with the high-waisted brown leather, zipper trousers. It captures the essence of the show’s theme. Only a talented artisan like Cadwallader could compose such an opus. Daniele Oberrauch via gorunway.com.

The entire line was a tasteful, artistic tribute to the timeless legend Thierry Mugler, we were spoilt with contemporary sculptured silhouettes and designs, one of the most diverse casts a runway has seen, and total sensuality. The show has reminded us to be grateful for one more thing; that is Casey Cadwallader being elected to be Mugler's creative director in 2017 to bring us those one-of-a-kind pieces showcased on the Parisian runway. r.i.p Thierry Mugler.

lots and lots of love always,
